The voltage regulator is a continuously adjustable autotransformer with a turns ratio. When the voltage regulator brush slides along the polished surface of the coil by means of the hand wheel main shaft and the brush holder, the turns ratio can be continuously changed. Thereby the output voltage is smoothly adjusted from zero to the previous high.
